Close Analysis Of Text

"Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more;
    Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea and one on shore,
    To one thing constant never;
        Then sigh not so,
        But let them go,
    And be you blithe and bonny;
Converting all your sounds of woe
    Into. Hey nonny, nonny.

Sing no more ditties, sing no mo,
    Or dumps so dull and heavy;
The fraud of men was ever so,
    Since summer first was leavy.
        Then sigh not so,
        But let them go,
    And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
    Into Hey, nonny, nonny." Balthasar (Act 2, Scene 2, p.26)

One thing the song says that the nature of men is that "Men were deceivers ever". I think that he is saying that men only like to trick women into them thinking otherwise about something. The song also states that "The fraud of men was ever so". I think that means men are only frauds and liars.

The song recommends women to "... let them go". The meaning of that is saying that women should just forget about the man if he just lies and cheats on her. The song also says "then sigh not so" which i think means that women should not be sad and they should just move on.

I do not agree with what the song says. The song says that "Men were deceivers ever" and "fraud of men was ever so". That is saying that men are dirty liars and cheaters. Not all men are the same. If a women wants the right guy, then she shouldn't be going for the wrong ones.

The song reflects that how Benedick used, played, and lied to women in the past and how he should get his stuff together and settle down with someone he loves before he loses them. So this song is like a wake up call for Benedick.

I think that Don Pedro and his minions used this song because it reflects what Benedick has been doing to women in the past because Benedick never settled down with a women and only uses women.
Benedick
Witty and Narcissistic

     The way i connect with Benedick is that i would argue with someone i love, mostly family. I also think of witty comebacks but sometimes it comes back around and get hurt like when Beatrice hurt Benedick when at the ball.

     Benedick is one of the main roles in the play. He argues with Beatrice a lot like in the beginning of the book. Benedick is also later tricked by his friends into thinking that Beatrice is madly in love with him.
Beatrice is also tricked by her friends to think that she loves him too.

Task #1 : First Impressions

What character did you connect with the most and why?
I think the character i can relate most to is Benedick because i have argued with a person i had a thing with in the past and i'm not the nicest person to some people. Another reason why is because he is misunderstood sometimes. I also think i can relate to Benedick a lot is because i like to give advice to my friends who need help and i try to help them as much as i can. Lastly, i think i can relate to Benedick is because we have a hunger that can eat a horse.
Choose ONE QUOTE that was funny and explain why you think it's funny.
"Well you are a rare parrot-teacher" (Benedick 4). I thought that was funny because he compares Beatrice to a Parrot Teacher. What i also thought was funny was when they were arguing and had kept on comnparing eachother to animals.
What is one prediction you have about a future event?
I think Beatrice and Benedick will end up together. One reason i think so is because Don Pedro plans to hook them both up, which can be foreshadowing. Another reason i think they will end up together is that they argue, sometimes like they used to have a thing before. Finally, I think they will end up in the end is because they seem perfect for eachother.
